Welcome to the Orchestra: A Family Concert featuring "The Composer is Dead" by Nathaniel Stookey with text by Lemony Snicket
The Biloxi Civic Orchestra opens a new chapter this October, not just for the BCO, but for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. This concert marks BCO's debut as the Resident Orchestra of the newly reopened historic Saenger Theatre. It's fitting that our first performance in this storied hall is one build for the whole family. The evening centers on Nathaniel Stookey and Lemony Snicket's "The Composer is Dead", a delightfully macabre orchestral murder mystery in which every section of the orchestra becomes a suspect in the case of a composer's untimely demise. Snicket's droll narration and Stookey's sly, instrument-by-instrument writing turn a musc-appreciation lesson into a mystery kids and adults will both want to solve, while introducing young audiences to the sound and character of a full symphony orchestra.
Rounding out the program are Saint Saens' Danse Macabre, and Bizet's Intermezzo from Carmen Suite No. 1, giving the evening an autumn-night atmosphere without ever losing its sense of fun.
