The three lead voices were excellent, and also interwove in an impactful way. The ballet component greatly enhanced the story telling. The orchestra was supurb. The harp was especially eloquent. The staging, lighting, costuming, and choreography made potent contributions to the well-told Tale. A Happy Ending is always appreciated .... especially during complex, challenging Times. Thank you all, cast and crew.

My first visit into Pantages. Also my first Tacoma Opera. I am delighted. A pleasure to visit your site, as well as bringing together ballet and opera. Audience fun and friendly. Remarkable to walk neighborhood to where I parked my car near Annie Wright Park. Hardly any cars on road on Sunday. Warm and welcoming theatre and community. - I’ve missed since my days driving to Stadium district for PT. Delighted to see nieghborhoods thriving.

This was my first time seeing a performance from Tacoma Opera and I was not disappointed. Love that they have the guts to do something like, the Ring series. And the director was right in his opening speech, Seattle is not the only one worthy of doing such performances. Look forward to more performances.

Google maps gave us the wrong address on 30th by Ace Hardware which increased our stress level tremendously. (We drove 6 hours to get to the performance!) Thank goodness the actual address was on the ticket! But then we had to be seated in the very upper row, since we arrived a few minutes after the start.

Amazingly done. Solid vocal performances, helped with the smaller, also solid, orchestra in a relatively small room compared to something like McCaw Hall. I thoroughly enjoyed the acting and characterizations - a lot of care was put into the characters' relationships, and little bits of "business" like :Loge contemptuously but casually stepping over the fallen Fasolt brought scenes vividly to life. Fantastic venue (I've never been there), too. Well done!

Loved everything about the performance. Kudos to Tacoma Opera! I have one comment. We sat in the first row of the Center Loge section, and the brightness of the subtitles was very distracting Since the subtitles were so bright, the light emitting from the subtitle projector was also obvious and distracting. Please consider dimming the subtitles. For comparison, Seattle Opera uses subtitles that are not as bright and do not distract.

WOW! Tacoma Opera does it again. That was one of the most memorable experiences of a performance. I am endlessly impressed with the focus being on the voices and music. What a cast!!! Composition is amplified when there aren't too many distractions. The staging was powerful and elevated the emotions. Incorporating the ballet was a first for me. Such a beautiful way to connect the story. Thoroughly enjoyed that. My live music quota is wonderfully overfilled! &

The only thing I don't understand it why the ending was changed, The story is a classic tragedy and would have preferred this part of the performance to respect and be true to the mythology. To have Euridice die, then come back to life, then die again, only to be redeemed by love was a bit too over-the-top on liberties taken to the story.

A delight to see Tacoma ballet join with opera for performance. I rarely get to ballet. Been decades. You have inspired me to attend sooner. I look forward to your next opera as well. I liked three primary singers all women. Took me a minute to get that Orfeo played by a women and their voices worked well together. I’m fairly new to opera. I look forward to seeing soprano who sang Euredice next year. enjoy the interludes of orchestra during stage changes.

How did you like the event?

The performance was beautiful. It may have been minimalist, but in the best sense. Costuming was not elaborate but the voices were a delight to the ear. Adding the ballet dance troupe was genius and really gave the opera a feeling of both grace and movement. I was very impressed with the performance and don't understand why anyone would take issue with both leads being female. Back in the day of Shakespeare, all actors were male. Quality over all.

How did you like the event?

My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed Orfeo ed Euridice at the Pantages! The Greek myth is a story we are familiar with, and my youngest had participated in Hadestown Jr last year, so it was thrilling to be able to convince them to attend with me. The fact that it was a love story on the rainbow wasn’t even on my radar when I got the tickets, but I was extra happy to have my queer kids with me. Thank you for producing such a high quality show in our hometown!

How did you like the event?

This was my ninth different production of Rheingold , and I've seen it many times more. Applause for most of the fine and well cast singers. Rhinemaidens and Wotan were the exception, with intonation and oversinging the main problems. Alberich is a fine singer. Given a better costume, hair, and staging, he would be a standout. It's easy to forget that he should have some degree of power and majesty since he is Schwarz Wotan. He HAS to rival or at least balance Wotan.

I have seen the Seattle Opera's Ring cycle 4 times over the years, and while I had to adjust my expectations due to their use of the "Green Cycle" sets, the performance was very well done. There were a couple awkward moments (such as Donner and Froh's entrance) but also some wonderful scenes (Alberich's disappearing acts in Neibelheim) that were very well done.

How did you like the event?

The intimate nature was a nice change. The minimal sets worked when the singers were connected and convincing in their storytelling. The costumes/wigs were distracting; better to go with all black and a token piece than to turn a serious piece into a farce with the singers looking like cosplay plastic toys. The lack of a real LD and SM was abudantly clear. Fix the costumes, lights, and stage management to avoid a community theater quality, and you could have something special.

I drove down from Seattle after hearing about Tacoma Opera’s plans, on Classic KING FM, to present Wagner’s complete Ring Cycle over the next four years. What a delight to be there on opening night for Das Rhinegold! All aspects were exceptional, beginning with the excellent notes in the program to the astonishingly beautiful interior of the Pantages Theatre. The orchestra was heroic as were the singers. And hooray for the supra titles. Looking forward to next year.

Amazing A new community and family tradition has awakened. presentation of Das Rheingold, from the orchestra, to the costumes, to the fresh adaptations of each character… not to mention the voices and musicality. I have seen this opera more than once, in other cities, and never tire of it, but this? For a moment I was thinking, wait, in Tacoma? How did they do it? I guess the Ring was always known for its miracles.

How did you like the event?

This was a remarkable production. The singers did a fine job and the orchestration was remarkable--the smaller orchestra never felt like a compromise or "less than". I was surprised and pleased at the use of traditional backdrops rather than a more modern reliance on projections. I imagined that it harkened back to the earlier days of the Pantages and was closer to what early productions might have been.

How did you like the event?

A wonderful production! Alberich stole the show! An excellent job of presenting a complicated work. It was sort of a period piece, wonderful costumes, sort of steampunk meets Edwardian in design. It was reminiscent of Seattle's green Ring on a smaller scale with a touch of industrial revolution. I can't wait to see the rest of the Ring Cycle!

How did you like the event?

Excellent performances. We three women were early purchasers of $50 tickets, thrilled to see an available Sunday matinee. It was sad, however, to be surrounded by so many empty seats, even after your efforts to give them away. I was double-booked, and missed Svend’s Jascha Heifetz (Second City) recital at 4. Tough choices!

How did you like the event?

It was such a pleasure to experience the joy each performer expressed as they sang. They seemed to genuinely like each other and played off of each other well. I liked hearing well-known pieces, because I'm still somewhat inexperienced with attending opera.

How did you like the event?

The performances were very good and the music was excellent. The facility itself is atmospheric in the best way. This would have been a 5-star review but for the distracting and disruptive children in attendance. I have no idea why a parent would think it's a good idea to bring a 3 year old. They squealed, talked loudly, and ran about. It absolutely ruined some of the songs. And no action from theater personnel. It will likely keep me from returning.

Along with the voices, the fluid, natural acting made this production a standout. Although Mimi (Kristin Vogel) had some trouble expressing the high notes, her voice blended seamlessly with Rodolfo's (Nathan Granner). I saw some audience tears at the end. All the principals made their characters come alive, and Benoit's (Miles Rind) turn provided welcome comic relief in a bass baritone that became the center of attention when he was on stage.

I am glad that you pulled in a large audience of families. i hope you won new fans to fill the seats. As for my opinion about the production, I have seen so many versions of this one that i am probably not one to give a fair review. Just two comments: the singers sang their high notes too long, often to the detriment of the action. I don't understand why the Piu Sostenuto section of the fourth act was played forte. It is written pp to echo happier times. The wh

How did you like the event?

Loved the tenor. Felt no chemistry between Rodolfo and Mimi and her volume on the frequent high notes hurt my ears. It would work outside, but too much for the space we were in. Musetta was sung and played well. My problem with the production was that I have seen too many Bohemes by the Met. Not fair to a small opera company. You guys did great. Loved the kids. Loved the community spirit. Long live opera!

How did you like the event?

We greatly enjoyed the evening. At it, we visited with a male friend who is a singer and who has performed and studied opera, including in Italy. His comments helped affirm our own strong dominantly positive feelings about the performance. We felt the lead singers to be especially fine--but we felt that a couple of the support singers were a bit less so. For many reasons, we think it's wonderful and wise that children have been included in recent productions.
